FDL Double Shaft Mixer: Efficient Production of Organic Silicon Pressure Sensitive Adhesive

Jun 12, 2026

Organic silicon pressure-sensitive adhesive, as a high-performance adhesive with viscosity and repeatability at room temperature, is widely used in aerospace, electronics, automotive, and medical fields due to its high and low temperature resistance, good weather resistance, radiation resistance, and excellent electrical insulation properties. The preparation process involves the reaction of silicone resin, silicone rubber, and a catalyst at high temperatures, as well as subsequent solvent blending, which requires extremely high dispersion efficiency, temperature control accuracy, and cleanliness of the mixing equipment.

The advantage of the FDL Double shaft mixer lies in the synergistic effect of its scraper stirrer and high-speed disperser. In the preparation of silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive, silicone rubber (such as hydroxyl-terminated silicone rubber) and silicone resin (such as methyl silicone resin) need to undergo crosslinking reaction at 150-180 ℃ through catalysts (such as organic peroxides or chloroplatinic acid) to form a uniform pressure-sensitive adhesive solution. The FDL Double shaft mixer realizes the overall turning and heat transfer of materials through the low-speed anchor or butterfly blades of the scraper mixer. At the same time, the high-speed disperser carries out strong shearing of materials at a linear speed of thousands of revolutions per minute, ensuring that silicone rubber and silicone resin are evenly mixed in a wide range with a molar ratio of about 1: (100-1000), so as to avoid gel or incomplete reaction caused by high local concentration. This dual-axis collaborative mode not only shortens the reaction time but also improves the peel strength of pressure-sensitive adhesive - for example, it can reach 237N/cm at room temperature, and can still maintain twice the room temperature strength at -40 ℃ and+140 ℃, meeting the application requirements in extreme environments.

The PTFE scraper design of the FDL Double shaft mixer plays a key role in the production of high viscosity materials commonly used in organic silicon pressure-sensitive adhesive, such as toluene solution with a solid content of 60%. The scraper runs closely against the inner wall of the container that has been mirror-polished, effectively scraping off the high-viscosity adhesive adhering to the wall and avoiding batch differences caused by material retention. This feature is particularly important for production lines that require frequent formula changes - for example, when switching from producing ordinary pressure-sensitive adhesives to high-heat-resistant types (including methyl vinyl silicone rubber), the self-cleaning function of the scraper can reduce cleaning time and improve equipment utilization. In addition, the equipment can be equipped with a vacuum dispersion function to remove solvent volatiles and carry air during the mixing process, preventing bubbles from affecting the coating uniformity of pressure-sensitive adhesive tape, ensuring that the final product maintains a dense structure after pre-drying at 70-100 ℃ and heating and drying at 150 ℃.

The flexible configuration of the FDL Double shaft mixer further adapts to the diverse production needs of silicone pressure-sensitive adhesives. The equipment can choose different agitator types based on material viscosity (up to 150000 CPS) - for example, anchor blades are used to enhance shear force when processing high molecular weight silicone rubber, while butterfly blades are switched to improve mixing efficiency during the low viscosity solvent blending stage. The hydraulic lifting and swinging mechanism supports single or multiple tank operations, making it easy to quickly change formulas or carry out mass production. Multiple clamping modes (such as pneumatic clamping) ensure the stability of the mixing tank under high temperature and pressure, preventing safety accidents caused by tank displacement. In addition, the equipment complies with ATEX II 2GD c IIB T3 explosion-proof standards and can safely handle flammable solvents such as toluene, meeting safety regulations in the production of organic silicon pressure-sensitive adhesives.

The FDL Double shaft mixer effectively solves the problems of uneven dispersion, high viscosity material hanging on the wall, and safety risks in the production of organic silicon pressure-sensitive adhesives through advantages such as dual axis synergistic mixing, PTFE scraper self-cleaning, vacuum degassing, and flexible configuration. It provides a high-performance and high-consistency pressure-sensitive adhesive product guarantee for aerospace, electronics, and medical fields.
